All of our lambs are born here on farm. They are grass-fed from our lush green pasture and supplemented with local hay when needed. We do not use any chemicals on the property and the animals are vaccine free.
We sell whole lambs directly to our customers, which allows for them to be humanely processed right here on farm instead of having a stressful transport to a processing facility. The price of the lamb is $6.00/lb for hanging weight (averages hanging weight is 30-40 pounds). This is paid to the farmer and the processing fees will be paid directly to the butcher. You will end up with approx 1-2 paper grocery bags worth of meat for your freezer.

RAW MILK HERDHARES
Please reach us at if you cannot find an answer to your question.
A herd share is where someone buys a share of a herd, and pays the farmer a monthly care fee. In exchange they receive milk from their own herd.
One share cost a one time fee of $15 to buy in and then $30 per month. One share will provide you with approx. 1/2 gallon milk per week.
You are able to purchase more than one share in the herd. Each share is equal to 1/2 gallon per week.
For example if you would like a gallon per week you would need to buy 2 shares, two gallons a week you would need to buy 4 shares, ect.
Pickup dates and times will be set according to a schedule. We currently have a weekly drop spot conveniently located in Florence.
Yes, please provide a half gallon mason jar for your weekly share. Also, exchange an empty clean and air dried jar at your regular pickup.
We usually try to stagger our breedings so we have milk year round. However, with long lactations, extreme weather, missed breeding, ect. we cannot guarantee to have milk available year round. In the times of low production or dry months, the monthly care fee is still due. However, if you would like to terminate your share during these times, we can let you know when more milk is available and you can repurchase your share. This does unfortunately run the risk of losing your share, since shares are limited.
Milk is a raw product and should be kept as cool as possible at all times to keep fresh longer! When you pickup your mik, please come with a cooler and an ice pack of some sort for your trip home and get it into your fridge as soon as possible.
Milk for drinking typically last 7-10 days, as long as it is kept at temperatures of 38 degrees or less.
No, we do not offer credits or refunds.
We spend time with each cow twice a day minimum. This means at least twice a day we are assessing them for behaviors or signs that point towards illness or injury. When the cows are milked, we check each quarter for any hardness, fever, or redness. Hand-milking allows for very intimate approach to knowing every cow and what is normal for each individual quarter which gives us a greater chance of detecting any changes early on. Cows are tested for mastitis regularly using a cmt test. If any cow was to show signs of injury or illness they will be removed from the milking lineup until they are cleared. We have disease tested negative for Johnes, Blv, and Bvd and maintain a closed herd.
We never use hormones. We believe in natural and holistic treatment when ever possible. We will always try to address any issue that may arise using natural and organic products first. However, the cows are like family to us and their health is always top priority. If a situation occurs that requires antibiotics to be administered for the health of the cow, the antibiotics will not be present in the milk. This is because the milk from any cow treated with antibiotics would be disposed of until well after the withdrawal period.
The herd is grassfed, which is how we believe all ruminants should be fed. They have access to green grass year round and are supplemented in the winter with hay from our own fields and some other local grown grass hay. During milking, the girls are given a small helping of alfalfa and a locally grown non-gmo grain top dressed with thorvine kelp. This provides them with the nutritional balance they need to maintain a healthy weight and good healthy milk for their calves and us.
Yes, we practice what is called calf sharing. We allow each milk cow to raise her calf as nature intended it to be. Although, we do not push milk production the dairy cow's genetics allow for them to produce more milk than their one calf can consume. The cows are milked twice a day during peak production in a low stress environment. During calf sharing we may not always get as much cream as the cow reserve that for growing their calf, we feel that this natural method of management allows for a much happier cow which in turn produces healthier milk. Once the calves reaches weaning age, typically between 4-6 months, we may see a bump in the cream line.
Every cow's udder is washed and sanitized with a soap&vinegar wash before milking. Cows are hand milked using a high quality stainless steel bucket with a strainer atop to assure nothing gets into the milk. If a cow is not calf sharing (because of the calf is already weaned) then she is sprayed with a chlorhexidine spray after milking to provide a disinfectant as well as a barrier to protect against any debris or germs. The milk is strained as quick as possible using a commercial stainless funnel with a quality one-time use disposable filters. Then the milk is placed into clean sterile jars and flash cooled immediately.
